Vladimir Putin unveils statue of namesake Vladimir the Great

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday unveiled a 17-metre statue of Prince Vladimir the Great, a 10th-century ruler whom both Russia and Ukraine believe to be the founder of their states. Vladimir the Great, who adopted Orthodox Christianity for his people, is believed to have had several wives. The statue was inaugurated on the Day of National Unity in Russia.
