VP Singh announced OBC reservation in Parliament on this day

Former Prime Minister VP Singh on August 7, 1990 announced in the Parliament that his National Front coalition government would implement a reservation scheme for 'other backward classes'. It was part of the Mandal Commission's recommendations which mandated 27% of seats in government jobs, schools and colleges to be reserved for candidates belonging to the OBC.
