VP Sivakolundhu elected as Puducherry Assembly Speaker

Puducherry Deputy Speaker and Lawspet legislator VP Sivakolundhu was on Monday elected as the new Speaker of the Union Territory Assembly. The Speaker's chair fell vacant after Congress' V Vaithilingam stepped down on March 21 to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the lone Puducherry parliamentary seat. The Congress leader, Sivakolundhu, was the sole contender for the Speaker's post.
