Washington state approves 9.9% tax on millionaires

The US state of Washington on Monday signed into law a 9.9% tax on income above $1 million. The move is seen as historic, as the state has no income tax on wages or salaries. Governor Bob Ferguson said lower-income families pay 13.8% of their income in state and local taxes, while the wealthiest pay a far smaller percentage.
