WB govt orders closure of 252 madrassas, sends show-cause notice to 100

West Bengal government has ordered the closure of 252 madrassas and issued show-cause notices to 100 others after a statewide survey. The survey found that several institutions lacked required approvals and basic infrastructure. State Minister Dilip Ghosh said madrassas had faced controversies and alleged that some people arrested for extremist activities were found working as teachers there.
