Wearing hijab not an essential part of Islam: Allahabad High Court

Allahabad High Court dismissed a petition seeking permission for a girl student to wear a headscarf (hijab) along with her school uniform. It observed that wearing a headscarf isn't an essential part. "HCs have been unanimous in opinion that wearing...headscarf isn't an essential part of...Islamic faith for a woman to don, in...absence of which, faith would be jeopardised," it said.
