TV actress Ulka Gupta, best known for 'Jhansi Ki Rani', recalled being rejected for her skin tone as a child actor, speaking about the industry's obsession with fair skin. She said, "There'd often be a note outside that read, 'Only fair kids'...They would say, 'We're only casting upmarket kids'. I used to beg them to at least let me audition."
