West Bengal begins levying fines for spitting, littering & other violations
West Bengal has begun enforcing digital fines for public cleanliness violations, effective September 1. The categories include ₹100 for spitting on roads, ₹200 for littering or dumping garbage, ₹200 for open urination or defecation and ₹200 for using banned single-use plastic bags below 125 microns. Authorised civic personnel will use an app to collect penalties through a QR code.
