West Bengal to get 7 new districts, total number to increase to 30
The West Bengal Cabinet has approved a proposal to carve out seven new districts, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday. The new districts will be Berhampore, Kandi, Sunderbans, Bashirhat, Ichamati, Ranaghat and Bishnupur. A senior state government official said that the decision was taken to ensure smooth administrative operations. At present, the state has a total of 23 districts.
