A bellwether seat is an indicator of the entire geographical location and can predict which party or alliance will form the government. An example of this is Gujarat's Valsad. Data shows that in 16 elections since 1957, the party that wins the Valsad Lok Sabha seat forms the government in the Centre. UP's Kanpur is also considered a bellwether seat.
