What are the punishments for 'obscene acts' in India?
Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina were booked under Section 296 of BNS (obscene acts and songs in public places) and Section 67 of IT Act (publishing/transmitting obscene material electronically). Section 296 prescribes jail term of up to three months or ₹1,000-fine or both, while IT Act prescribes up to three-year jail term and up to ₹5-lakh fine for first conviction.
