What are the symptoms of Nipah virus as Kerala reports 1st death in 2024?

A 14-year-old boy in Kerala died after testing positive for Nipah virus. As per WHO, the infected people initially develop symptoms like fever, headaches, muscle pain, vomiting and sore throat. It can further increase to altered consciousness, encephalitis (brain inflammation), seizures, atypical pneumonia and severe respiratory problems. Nipah virus is primarily spread from fruit bats to humans.
