What does expunging mean in Parliament & how does the process work?

Expunging refers to the removal of inappropriate words from Parliamentary records. If a member uses unparliamentary words, the head of the reporting section sends it to the Speaker suggesting to expunge it. Under Rule 380, the Speaker has the discretion to expunge it. Once expunged, the word is removed and mentioned as "expunged as ordered by the Chair" in proceedings.
