What happens when a bank account becomes inoperative?
Under RBI rules, a savings or current bank account becomes inoperative when there are no customer-induced transactions for over two years. Such accounts are segregated from regular accounts partly due to the higher risk of fraud. However, the balance is not forfeited, and customers can approach the bank to reactivate the account and access the money after verification.
