Volkswagen's reported plan to cut up to one lakh jobs could mark the biggest layoff in the auto industry. Some of the sector's largest job cuts include General Motors laying off 74,000 employees in 1991, followed by another 60,500 between 2006 and 2009. Ford Motor cut 35,000 jobs in 2002, while Volkswagen also laid off 30,000 employees in 1993.
