A fatwa is a non-binding legal opinion given from an Islamic point of view. It is supported by legal principles mentioned in the Quran or prescriptions from Prophet Muhammad. Fatwas can be issued in response to an act or an incident, or for teaching purposes, by qualified Islamic jurists known as Muftis, on various issues like international issues, women, etc.
