What is cervical cancer and what are its symptoms?

Cervical cancer starts in cells of cervix, which is the lower, narrow end of uterus (womb). Its symptoms include vaginal bleeding between periods, bleeding from rectum, difficult or painful urination or blood in urine and swelling of legs, among others. The government has said it will encourage vaccination for girls aged 9 to 14 for prevention of cervical cancer.
