What is Form 16 and why is it needed for ITR filing?

The two parts of Form 16, A and B, together provide a citizen's personal and salary-related details to aid them in filing their income tax returns (ITRs). The form is used by taxpayers to tally details mentioned in Form 26AS and Annual Information Statement. It also serves as proof of employers having deposited TDS on their employees' salaries.
