What is Jallikattu, the traditional bull-taming sport?

Jallikattu, the bull-taming tradition is an ancient blood sport organised across Tamil Nadu during the mid-January harvest festival Pongal. It involves releasing a bull into a crowd of people where participants attempt to grab its hump and ride it for as long as possible. At times, participants also try to remove red flags attached to the bull’s horns.
