What is Kojagara Puja, observed alongside Sharad Purnima today?
Kojagara Puja, which coincides with Sharad Purnima, is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi. The festival is primarily celebrated in West Bengal and eastern parts of India. The word ‘Kojagara’ is linked to the Sanskrit expression “Ko Jagrati?”, meaning “Who is awake?” According to popular religious belief, Goddess Lakshmi visits Earth on this night and blesses those who remain awake in devotion.
