OPEC, which UAE is exiting effective May 1, was formed in 1960 and currently has 12 member states. OPEC says its member states' exports account for 49% of global crude exports, and estimates that the member countries hold 80% of world's proven oil reserves. The group aims to regulate global oil prices by coordinating on reductions or increases in production.
