What is Santiago Peña's link to the collapsed bank that held half of Paraguay's savings?
Santiago Peña, who quit as Paraguay's president after collapse of Ueno Bank, which held half of Paraguay's savings, was a shareholder of its parent company. Peña had also appointed Ueno's former president, Carlos Carvallo, to lead Central Bank of Paraguay, which ultimately granted Ueno its official banking license. During Peña's term, about $800 million in public-sector deposits flowed into Ueno.
