What is Shigella virus that killed four-year-old child in Kerala?
Kerala government informed that it intensified surveillance after a four-year-old child died of Shigella virus, marking the first death from the infection in the state. Shigella is a bacterial infection which affects the intestines and can lead to diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps. The bacteria can spread through contact with infected people as well as contaminated food and water.
