The Sun recently entered the solar maximum phase in its 11-year solar cycle. Solar maximum occurs in years when sunspots are most numerous, while solar minimum refers to years when number of sunspots is lowest. During solar maximum, activity on Sun and the effects of space weather on our terrestrial environment are high.
