What is the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 that has come into force today?

The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 has come into force on Monday, replacing the more than three-decade old Consumer Protection Act 1986. In the new Act, manufacturers, service providers, celebrity endorsers will be held accountable over misleading advertisements. The compensation and jail terms for defaulters have also been updated. Moreover, the Act encourages consumers to e-file complaints.
