What is the cyclosporiasis outbreak currently hitting the US?

Over 1,600 cases of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic intestinal illness, have been reported in more than half the US states. The infection spreads when people consume food or water contaminated with feces. It causes watery diarrhea, often with frequent and sometimes explosive bowel movements. Health officials in Michigan are investigating whether lettuce may be the source of the outbreak.
