What is the G7 and why was it formed?

G7 or Group of Seven is an informal grouping of nations including US, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan. G7's first summit as held in 1975 so the world’s richest nations could discuss economic crises affecting global economy, including the OPEC embargo and fall of Bretton Woods system. Its member states have combined annual GDP of over $50 trillion.
