What is the history behind International Men's Day?

International Men's Day celebration was first declared in 1992 by Thomas Oaster to raise awareness about the issues men face. It was revived in 1999 by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh in Trinidad and Tobago and the date coincides with Teelucksingh's father's birthday. The date also intends to celebrate Trinidad and Tobago's soccer team's 1989 victory, an event which united the country.
