What is the story behind Mother's Day celebration?

US school teacher Anna Jarvis campaigned to make Mother’s Day a recognised holiday after her mother, peace activist Ann Reeves Jarvis, died in 1905. Believing "mothers do more than anyone else", she organised the first formal Mother’s Day celebration in West Virginia in 1908. In 1914, then US President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day.
