Temporary Protected Status (TPS), targeted by US President Donald Trump, provides deportation relief and work permits to people already in the US if their home countries experience a natural disaster, armed conflict or other extraordinary event. It's a temporary benefit that doesn't lead to lawful permanent resident status or give any other immigration status. Currently, 17 countries have TPS.
