India has eliminated trachoma as a public health problem. Trachoma, one of the leading causes of blindness globally, is an eye disease caused by infection with Chlamydia trachomatis. It spreads through contaminated fingers, fomites, flies that have come into contact with discharge from eyes or nose of infected person. Environmental risk factors include poor hygiene and overcrowded households.
