What is Western Disturbance that brought rain, snow to North India?

Cold conditions have gripped North India as an active Western Disturbance has hit the region. Western Disturbance is a storm system that travels from west toward India, carrying moisture and bad weather with it. It usually forms far away from India, over Mediterranean Sea or nearby regions. It develops when cold air from higher latitudes mixes with warmer, moist air.
