Banks and most educational institutions in India are closed on Independence Day- a national holiday. Stock exchanges NSE and BSE are closed, as are all liquor shops, as it's dry day across the country. Government offices and monuments are also shut on August 15th. Public transport, emergency services like police stations and hospitals, malls and restaurants, are, however, open.
