What was 'Operation Vijay' that India launched during Kargil War?

'Operation Vijay' was launched by Indian Army during the Kargil War in 1999 when around 1,500 Pakistani soldiers infiltrated the Indian territory of Kargil and occupied strategic heights. Under this operation, the Indian Army evicted Pakistani intruders and re-captured the occupied territories. Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on July 26 to commemorate India's victory over Pakistan in Kargil War.
