What were previous voter turnout records in Bengal & TN polls as states set new records?

Tamil Nadu Assembly polls and phase 1 of West Bengal Assembly polls on Thursday recorded 84.69% and 91.78% voter turnout, respectively, which is the highest-ever poll participation since Independence. This surpassed Tamil Nadu's previous highest of 78.29% achieved in the 2011 Assembly elections. West Bengal also exceeded its previous high of 84.72% set in 2011.
