Late physicist Stephen Hawking issued several warnings including on self-improving artificial intelligence that "may replace humans altogether". He feared power consumption would turn the planet into a "fireball" by 2600 and warned humans wouldn't survive another 1,000 years without escaping Earth. Hawking also urged caution in making contact with aliens, saying they could likely be more advanced.
