A Ukrainian-born model's recent Miss Japan pageant win has become news. Carolina Shiino, who spent most of her life in Japan, recently came under fire for taking home the tiara despite not being born in Japan. The 26-year-old model said in her speech, "There have been racial barriers, and it has been challenging to be accepted as Japanese."
