When can marriage promise amount to offence under BNS?

Section 69 of the BNS deals with sexual intercourse obtained through a deceitful promise to marry. Advocate Deepak Somani said the timing and nature of the promise are crucial. The Supreme Court has held that a false promise must exist from the inception of the relationship. A consensual relationship does not automatically become an offence if a later marriage promise is unfulfilled.
