As per 2011 Census, Hindi is the most spoken language in India, with 52.83 crore speakers, accounting for 43.63% of the then population. Bengali ranks second with 9.72 crore speakers (8.03%). Marathi is spoken by 8.30 crore speakers (6.86%), Telugu by 8.11 crore speakers (6.70%), and Tamil by 6.90 crore speakers (5.70%). The ongoing Census 2027 will provide fresh data.
