Which direction should the first diya face on Diwali?

First diya on Diwali should be placed in home's most sacred spot, usually pooja room or north-east corner, according to Vastu Shastra. Diya with its wick facing east is believed to promote good health and longevity, while one facing north is associated with wealth and opportunities.
