Which major shipping routes are free & which charge transit fees?

Among the world's major shipping routes, ships can pass through Bosphorus, Dardanelles, Bab el-Mandeb, Cape of Good Hope and Strait of Gibraltar without paying transit fees. Strait of Malacca also has no mandatory toll, although Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore receive voluntary contributions to maintain navigational aids. In contrast, ships must pay transit fees to use Panama and Suez canals.
