Only female mosquitoes bite human beings to derive proteins from blood to produce eggs. People who've high metabolic rate and emit more carbon dioxide, including those who're pregnant, working out, or drinking alcohol tend to be more attractive to mosquitoes. Mosquitoes can also sniff out human sweat, and they're attracted to lactic acid, ammonia, and other compounds emitted in it.
