WHO approves first malaria drug for infants under 6 months
WHO has approved Coartem Baby, the first malaria medicine specifically designed for infants under six months. The drug now has WHO prequalification, enabling wider procurement, and comes as sweet cherry-flavoured tablets that can be dissolved in liquids, including breast milk. Notably, malaria caused 6,10,000 deaths globally, with most among children under five in Africa in 2024.
