Who is Indian-origin Arvind Raman, US' interim AI safety head?

Indian-origin Dr Arvind Raman will oversee US AI safety efforts on an interim basis after AI safety chief Chris Fall resigned. Raman serves as Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and Director of National Institute of Standards and Technology. He holds a PhD in mechanical engineering from University of California and previously served as Purdue University's Engineering Dean.
