Who is Shams Aalam, Indian para-swimmer sent back from Japan?

Indian para-swimmer Mohammad Shams Aalam Shaikh was sent back from Japan during Asian Para Games over sexual misconduct allegations involving a housekeeping employee. The 40-year-old became paraplegic after spinal surgery at 24. He set an 8 km swimming world record in 2017, won four gold medals at the 2018 Indian Open Para Swimming Championship, and earned six medals in Iceland in 2025.
