Who is Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore's new Indian-origin President?
Indian-origin Tharman Shanmugaratnam was on Friday elected as the ninth President of Singapore. The 66-year-old, an economist by profession, joined politics in 2001. Shanmugaratnam served as Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister between 2011 and 2019. He obtained his bachelor's degree in economics from the London School of Economics and master's degree in economics from the University of Cambridge.
