Who is Uday Ruddarraju, set to lead OpenAI's data centre, computing unit?

OpenAI has appointed Indian-origin engineer Uday Ruddarraju to head its infrastructure and computing businesses as the company accelerates data centre expansion. Born in Hyderabad, Ruddarraju led infrastructure engineering at Elon Musk's xAI and X and played key role in building Colossus AI supercomputer. He joined OpenAI in 2025 and was appointed chief technology officer for compute in July 2026.
