Who is Vijay Keshav Gokhale, India's new Foreign Secretary?

Vijay Keshav Gokhale, who is succeeding S Jaishankar as India's Foreign Secretary, is a 1981-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, who was serving in the Ministry of External Affairs as Secretary (Economic Relations). Gokhale is considered an expert on China and had played a key role in the negotiations to resolve the 73-day-long Doklam standoff between India and China last year.
