WHO releases first-ever list of fungi threat to public health

The WHO published the first-ever list of fungal "priority pathogens" – 19 fungi that represent the "greatest threat to public health". "Fungal pathogens are a major threat to health as they're becoming increasingly resistant to treatment," WHO said. Those with cancer, HIV/AIDS, organ transplants, chronic respiratory disease, and post-primary tuberculosis infection are at greatest risk, it added.
