June Almeida, the woman who discovered first human coronavirus in 1964 was daughter of a Scottish bus driver. June, who was born in 1930 and was a pioneer of immuno-electron microscopy, left her education at age of 16. Almeida had discovered the virus, which she described as like influenza viruses but not exactly the same, while examining nasal washings.
